Volunteer

Habitat for Humanity Island County (HFHIC) welcomes you to the volunteer page. Without the support of our hard working volunteers in committees, boards, construction, retail, and all other aspects of the organization we would not be able to accomplish our goal of providing affordable housing for everyone!

Below is a list of volunteer opportunities.

Please register on Volunteer Up!

This is our new volunteer managment system to give 24/7 access to the volunteer work schedule, sign up on a calendar system, and be able for the volunteer to be contacted about information that interests them. This will also help us to track your hours that allow us us to apply for more grants and funding to build more homes!

Committee Members

Committee members help everyday to build the capacity of HFHIC to better serve low-income families in the Whidbey community. These Committees include: Church/Public Relations, Family Support and Selection, Construction, and Women Build.

Food/Lunch Crew

Many of our volunteers who do not want to do construction work help out by bringing food to our hungry construction site workers. Feeding our hardworking construction volunteers helps save money and time. The important aspects of this job would be preparing food to feed a certain number and being able to come deliver the food in the morning and/or afternoon.

Construction

Individual

      • Do you want to hammer and nail a house together? General Construction is the place for you! We are looking for hardworking volunteers to dedicate a Friday or/and Saturday to help build our homes. If you are unskilled, semi-skilled, or very skilled we would love to have your help.

Site Coordinator

      • Do you have specialized skills in construction? We are actively looking for Construction Site Leaders with a level of knowledge and skill about construction practices. You will help lead and teach other volunteers on the construction site for a day.

Group Construction

Group Construction is a fun way to help bring a group together to do volunteer work. We are always looking for groups to come from Churches, businesses, other volunteer groups, military, schools, etc… It is a great way for your group to create unity while also building your community.

Furniture ReStore

An important aspect of our fund-raising is our furniture ReStore. Community members donate quality items to be re-sold. Volunteers help with the cleaning, sales, and delivery and pick-up of the furniture items. We need all levels of experience.

Women Build

Women Build is a Habitat for Humanity International program that encourages women to make a difference by building homes and communities. Women Build provides an environment in which women can feel comfortable learning construction skills they might not otherwise have the opportunity to learn. Also, women who have construction skills are needed and welcomed to help build, teach, and share.

Volunteer Outreach

Want to help communicate your passion for Habitat for Humanity? We are looking for volunteers willing to travel to Farmer’s Markets in the Whidbey area to sign up new volunteers and give out information to the community. These volunteers would need to have skills in communication, be personable, and willing to learn more about Habitat for Humanity to be able to respond to people’s questions.

Site  Host
Are you a people person? Site Greeting and Hosting is an important way for construction workers to feel welcome on the work site. This position would be in charge of handing out name tags and waivers, coordinating the sign in and out, and directing volunteers to jobs around the site.
