Critical Home Repair
Island County Habitat works with income-qualified homeowners to complete critical repairs that will make their homes safer and healthier.
Repairs may include roof, electrical, plumbing, structural, heating, and upgrades designed to accommodate physical ability, like ramps and railings.
Aging in Place
It’s important that homeowners can live safely in their homes as they age. Aging in place accomodations may include bathroom grab rails, walk-in shower modifications, toilet risers, and other modifications to improve safety and accessibility.
Home Preservation
It’s important that homeowners maintain the exterior condition of their homes to avoid larger problems down the road. Income-qualified homeowners can apply for repair/replacement of exterior components to maintain the soundness oftheir homes.
Property Revitalization
Habitat understands that sometimes, property upkeep is a challenge for older adults. Property revitalization services may include refuse disposal, drainage installation/repairs, lawn/landscape overgrowth control, and other things to improve access to your home.
Weatherization
In many older homes, challenges arise around air quality and energy efficiency. Qualified homeowners may request assistance with replacing windows, installing weather-stripping, insulation and other components that improve the home’s ability to maintain good air quality and temperature control.
Eligibility
Eligible homeowners recieve a 0% interest loan that is tailored to ensure affordability based on each homeowner’s circumstances. If you are accepted into the program, you will enter into a Partnership Agreement with Habitat for Humanity of Island County with repayment terms based on the scope of work and your ability to pay.
We are now accepting applications for the Critical Home Repairs for Seniors Program. Please reveiw the eligibility requirements and complete an application to be considered for this program.
Critical Home Repairs
To be eligible to participate in the Critical Home Repair Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- You may not be a current Habitat Homeowner
- Own and reside in the Island County home needing repairs.
- Total household income does not exceed 80% AMI.
- Owner able to pass a background check.
- The homes needed repairs qualify for the program.
- Manufactured homes must be on a permanent foundation.

To be eligible to participate in the Critical Home Repair Program for Seniors, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- You may not be a current Habitat Homeowner
- Homeowner must be age 65 or older.
- Own and reside in the Island County home needing repairs.
- Total household income does not exceed 80% AMI.
- Owner able to pass a background check.
- The homes needed repairs qualify for the program.
- Manufactured homes must be on a permanent foundation.
